Humble Words June 2012

This month, our Humble Words newsletter takes on a slightly different form. Rather than writing about a project and all of the Humble services that made it successful, we are showing you a "photo album" of past work we've done. We're hoping this format will help us show you the broad range of construction projects that we can help you accomplish.

It's true. We perform industrial and commercial construction for large-scale projects. But even some of our long-term customers don't know about our Special Projects division that can help accomplish nearly any project from the "incidental" to complex retrofit work. Here's a sampling of projects we have accomplished in the past. View full size photos of our projects below.

Tennant Improvement Office Renovation
We performed everything from tile and electrical work to installing glass walls for this law firm's office.

Concrete Foundation for Machinery
Demolition of an existing foundation was required so we could build up an appropriate support for the new machinery. A trench in the middle provides space for electrical connections.

image

Loading Dock
This was a retrofit, so we had to cut the bay openings. That required creating appropriate structural support. We excavated for the dock pits and set a new foundation prior to the concrete pour.

Dock Canopy
Heavy snow loads damaged the existing canopy. We removed 300 feet of existing canopy and replaced it with a more durable solution.

Overhead Door Opening
The existing door was not large enough for the building owner's equipment. Since it was a precast concrete wall, we constructed steel supports prior to cutting the wall and installing a new overhead door. The finished opening encompassed the man door shown in this early photo.

Structural Steel Mezzanine
This elevated structure was needed to create additional capacity to the existing building. The weight requirements demanded this heavy-duty construction.

Concrete Press Pit
We have developed specialized skills in the construction of concrete press foundations. This project needed to tie into existing tunnels but was hampered by ground water issues. We were able to provide a waterproofing solution in addition to the other work.

Custom Tank Construction
This steel tank was created for a specialized manufacturing process. Beyond the circular shape that needed to be formed, a very notable requirement was that the sides needed to be bolted, not welded.

Steel Hopper and Tank
Another custom tank construction, this piece was welded. In fact, it involved whole days of welding time. The finished piece stands about 12 feet high.

Innovative Solutions
This customer needed to segment off their R&D area from the manufacturing space, but wanted it to be visible during tours. We identified a unique siding material and used 6-inch galvanized pipe rather than traditional concrete posts to provide a high-tech look.
