Humble Words is our monthly e-newsletter that we use to let you know about our projects and capabilities here at Humble Construction. It’s also a way for us to communicate important information to our customers. As Fall begins to fade into Winter, it’s time to prepare your facilities for the weather ahead. A little preparation can go a long way toward avoiding problems.

So many construction companies are limited to work they can do on the jobsite. That’s not the case with Humble Construction. Among other services, our steel fabrication facility expands the types of services we can provide.

A recent example of this is a steel fabrication project that is nearing completion for a manufacturing facility here in central Ohio. Unlike many other projects, we did not provide the overall construction services. In this case, we were contracted to provide the structural steel that would form the backbone for the manufacturer’s expanded sheet metal coil coating system as well as a racking structure for the raw materials and the finished products.

One interesting challenge was that 100% of the expansion was happening inside an existing structure. That meant special consideration had to be used for the assembly of the steel to protect against any damage to the existing structure.

Our expertise in the construction process gives us an advantage in situations like this. We understand the challenges that are part of this kind of construction project. From experience we knew we would want to work directly with the supplier of the equipment that will be used inside the new structure. By doing this, we were able to confirm the dimensions of the equipment as well as the flow of the manufacturing process.

In the end, Humble Construction provided nearly 300 tons of steel for the project -- 183 tons for the support structure and 90 tons for the racking system. But more importantly, we provided it with the insight and perspective that only an experienced construction company could deliver. As a result, the project ran smoothly and we produced another satisfied customer. True to our reputation.

Be Prepared for Winter Weather

As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, we need to give special attention to preparing our facilities for the winter weather ahead. Each year we get calls from customers who need help when snow and ice start to cause problems in their buildings. For some specific tips, you can look back at the October 2011 issue of our Humble Words e-newsletter. Don’t wait until it’s snowing to think about winter building maintenance. Contact Humble Construction to schedule a winter inspection of your properties and buildings before we’re wrapped in a blanket of snow.
